Arthur Ward journeys East for 2 Gold Medals

In October Arthur was the only West Australian to compete at the World Masters Games in Sydney. Below is a write up from the Masters Games Newspaper. Another article appeared in the Kalgoorlie Miner as Arthur used to shoot in Kambalda.
Arthur also competed at the 30^th Anniversary International Championships on Norfolk Island which he won gold in the single barrel event following a shoot off with four other competitors.

Sydney Intl Shooting Centre - SH - 4000km journey rewarding for Ward (AUS)

Sydney – After travelling 4000km by car from the town of Gidgegannup in Western Australia to the Sydney 2009 World Masters Games, Arthur Ward (AUS) and his partner Ethel Chinnery will now make the slow return trip with a gold medal and many wonderful memories in hand.

Ward, 65, shot an 89 on Sunday in the 50+ ISSF trap to miss a place in the final, but did win a gold medal in Monday's 60yrs+ 100 double barrel.

Ward said the chance to see outback Australia was a bonus to competing in Sydney.

“We set ourselves sort of a timetable not to rush, and we saw a few sights on the way across which helps to break up our journey,” Ward said, adding that he decided to come to Sydney while competing in a masters event in Alice Springs last year.

Known as 'burglar' among his shooting friends due to his ability to 'come out of nowhere and claim gold', the West Australian entered himself in all of the clay target events at the Games despite not being a regular in the sport.

“Where else do you go to shoot over 700 targets? You can’t because all the competitions are normally only two to two and a half days and you cannot shoot that many targets. But being able come and shoot 700 targets plus is just awesome. It’s very good,” Ward said.

“(This is a) life time experience for me and it was a bit like competing in my own Olympic Games. Shoot seven days, 100 targets plus a day. I have never shot seven days in a row,” he said. “I am tired mentally and physically. I have had enough now.”

Despite his fatigue, Ward will start the return journey to Western Australia with one bonus he didn't have before the Games, offers of accommodation along the way from fellow masters competitors.

2010 State Ball Trap Winner - Jimmy Hamilton

Jimmy Hamilton has finally won a red sash. Hamilton won the 2010 State Ball Trap title at the Narrogin Clay Target Club on Sunday 21st February. He scored 46/50 in the State title event which saw him enter a shoot off with Wagin's Sam West. The shoot off lasted only a few targets before Hamilton claimed the title.
The day was programmed as 100 target Ball Trap, with the first 50 targets being contested for the Len Beven Memorial Trophy which is an annual event at the Narrogin Club. Wagin clubmates Jim West and Tristan Moffatt scored 45/50 and also had a short shoot off which saw Jim West win the trophy for the second time.
Five squads competed over the day, which saw travelling shooters come from Wagin, WAGC, Busselton and Peel. The weather was perfect and although scores were at times demoralising, a great day was had by all.

2010 World University Championships

Hello All,

The World University Championships – Shooting is being held in Wroclaw, Poland on September 15^th -19^th 2010.

We are currently seeking interest from athletes for this competition.

As a brief summary the eligibility criteria (as set by the International University Sport Federation) includes:

- Athletes must be a national of the country they are representing (so must be Australian citizens with an Australian passport)

- Athletes must be between the age of 17 and 28 as at January 1 of the year of competition

- Athletes must be currently enrolled and proceeding towards a diploma or higher at a recognised tertiary institution

Can you please pass this onto any interested members and advise me of interest by Friday the 19^th of February at the latest.

WACTA 5 Stand Sporting State Title Results 2009

The 2009 WACTA 5 Stand Sporting State Title was held at West Australian Gun Club on Sunday the 29^th November 2009. Sponsored by Corsivia Targets, GB Shotshells, A & S Lawn Services & WAGC.

32 Shooters nominated for the 100 varied targets from a rabbit to a controversial incoming crow; add a chon dell, battue, high quartering crosser, tower and a technically testing looping midi. Plus the trap and skeet type targets would not pass legality in their respective disciplines and the day was set up to sort out the WA State 5 Stand Champion for 2009.

Paul McGowan lead from the 1^st round with a score of 22/25, held with a 20/25 in the 2^nd, a perfect 25/25 in the third then secured the State Title with a 23/25 in the 4^th round. Paul’s outstanding score of 90/100 was 12 targets ahead of the next shooter.
